![]() Anyway, I changed the quote in my NaNo sig line yesterday to one my husband told me about: "If a thing is worth doing, it is worth doing badly," by G.K. Chesterton (who is always good for a witty line). I take it to mean that it's better to do it badly than not do it at all, and that we shouldn't get so hung up on trying to do it perfectly that we fail to do anything at all. I hope I can remember that during November and press myself to complete 50,000 words even if they are going to be 50,000 lousy ones. I tend to have an "all or nothing" attitude. I hope this challenge will get me past that, at least briefly, & that if I get way stuck on the novel, I'll just keep writing anything instead of getting stalled or trying to revise it endlessly to make it perfect. I'll be more disappointed in myself come December 1st if I've failed to complete 50,000 words than I will if I've completed them haphazardly. If I can only write 5,000 good words, that's fine...but let it be 5,000 good words plus 45,000 words of crap, not just the 5,000 good words! Meanwhile, I've tried ALL DAY to post this entry, and Blogger or BlogSpot is acting up! Grr. This is about my 10th attempt to send it to my blog, 10 hours after I started! (And it's REALLY 12:46 am on Oct. 24th right now!) I'm writing this paragraph because I have to change something in the entry to republish it to Blogspot. posted by Alison | 4:18 PM
