Even if I never write a page of my NaNo novel, NaNoWriMo has been good for me, because it's spurred me to get so much writing done in October! I've had all these other projects I wanted to get out of the way, and this has gotten me to finish some of them and even start some new things. I just hope I'm not burned out on writing by November! I think I will be burned out on typing, & I'm worried about carpal tunnel, etc. I've spent the last few days typing in some old stories I wrote & only had in hard copy form, and my wrist & arm are still hurting. Especially from the stuff I typed on the Palm keyboard. It is basically full-size, but it's not exactly laid out like my regular one and it's hard to get it set up at a great height, etc., since I was typing in the car a lot of the time.
Another wrimo (as some people are calling the NaNoWriMo novelists) suggested Chasing High Water as a title for my novel. I'll keep that in mind, though I'm still not sure how I'd work in water imagery (though there's a challenge to work both cabbage and pirates into the NaNo novels this year, so maybe I need water for the pirates, LOL!). I woke up this morning with the title Chasing Monday in my head, and it really appeals to me, but I don't see how that would be at all relevant to my novel, either! Of course, since I haven't written the novel yet I could always change what I'm planning to write something that would go with that title, but it does seem weird to write the novel to go with a title, instead of picking a title that goes with the novel! My main character will be active in online communities, and I thought her username would be some variation on lonewolf, but maybe it should be some variation on Monday?! I have no idea! I'm still pretty wedded to the lonewolf idea, because she's a loner, but if you picked up my book thinking it would have anything to do with wolves, you'd be way off. I got that idea from thumbing through a phone book for ideas for her last name. When I saw Wolfley, I got the lonewolf idea and it seemed perfect for her, so I decided to name her Wolfley. Though I suppose I could give her the last name Monday... Hmm, I was thinking I might go into November without preparing any more for this, but now I think I'd better do at least some vague brainstorming about who this character is. I also want to figure out what the first scene might be about. Right now I have about four competing ideas, and they're all pretty different.
